Our blog is not about expressing opinions in areas like politics or religion and it seldom concerns itself with the current news headlines but today's front pages and 24 news are an exception. This is one of those days when an event is getting so much coverage that many young children will register that something historic is taking place and start asking questions. These random events often form firm memories in later life. Be assured if any children ask why the fire in Paris matters or why everyone is talking about it early years staff up and down the country know how to respond and for those with long service this will bring back memories of other massive events that dominated the news for a few days and prompted similar "why is...?" questions from children. Our aim in those circumstances - and the aim of all early years providers - has always to be to explain calmly, reassure youngsters and reward their curiousity and interest.
